Mission LVM3-M6

The LVM3-M6 / BlueBird Block-2 mission is a dedicated commercial launch by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), scheduled for December 24, 2025, at 08:54 AM IST. This mission marks the 6th operational flight of India’s most powerful rocket, the LVM3. 

Mission Overview

Primary Payload: The BlueBird Block-2 (also referred to as BlueBird-6) communication satellite, developed by the U.S.-based company AST SpaceMobile.

Launch Site: Second Launch Pad (SLP), Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota.

Commercial Partner: Executed by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the commercial arm of ISRO, under a contract with AST SpaceMobile. 

Technical Significance

Heaviest Payload: The BlueBird Block-2 satellite weighs approximately 6,500 kg, making it the heaviest payload ever launched from Indian soil.

Largest Array in LEO: The satellite features nearly 2,400 square feet of phased-array antennas, the largest commercial array ever deployed in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

Mission Goal: Part of a constellation designed to deliver direct-to-smartphone high-speed cellular broadband globally, providing speeds up to 120 Mbps per cell.

Cryogenic Engine: The mission utilizes the indigenous high-thrust CE20 cryogenic engine, which successfully cleared flight acceptance hot tests earlier in 2025. 

Launch Vehicle Details: LVM3 

The LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark-III) is a three-stage heavy-lift vehicle: 

S200: Two large solid strap-on motors.

L110: A liquid core stage.

C25: A cryogenic upper stage. 

This rocket has previously successfully launched high-profile missions such as Chandrayaan-2, Chandrayaan-3, and the OneWeb satellite constellations. Its most recent flight before M6 was the LVM3-M5 mission on November 2, 2025, which deployed the CMS-03 satellite for the Indian Navy.
